Kinansela na ng Top Rank Promotions ang dalawa nitong naka-schedule na boxing cards sa New York bilang pag-iingat na rin sa coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Ayon kay Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, ito ay base sa rekomendasyon sa kanila ng athlete commission matapos ang konsultasyon nito sa kanilang mga medical personnel.
Pinayuhan umano sila na huwag na lamang ituloy ang mga events dahil sa kakulangan ng mga test para masuri ang mga manlalaro.
“It’s a failure to provide the proper testing for this virus in-country. If we could test the fighters and one or two tested positive then we would eliminate their fights, same with the referee. But without testing we are operating in the dark,” wika ni Arum.
Nakatakda sanang idaos ang nasabing mga laban sa Hulu Theater sa Madison Square Garden.
Sasalang sana sa kanyang unang title defense si featherweight world titleholder Shakur Stevenson kontra kay Miguel Marriaga sa Sabado.
Sa darating namang Miyerkules dapat magtutuos sa isang 10-rounder ang Irish featherweight na si Michael Conlan at si Belmar Preciado.
Una nang pinlano ng Top Rank na ituloy pa rin ang boxing cards kahit na walang manonood.
“After close consultation with the New York State Athletic Commission, it has been determined that Saturday’s and Tuesday’s events cannot proceed in light of the ongoing coronavirus crisis,” saad ng Top Rank. “Top Rank will work with the commission to reschedule the events as soon as it is safe for all involved. The health and safety of the fighters and their teams, and everyone involved in the promotion of these events necessitated taking this step.
“We thank everyone for their understanding, and we will continue to work with our broadcast/venue partners and state and local officials to decide when the time is right to return.”
