Around 5.3 million people in Syria may have been homeless because of the destructive magnitude 7.8 earthquake in the said country.
The affected people need shelter assistance and other necessities.
“As many as 5.3 million people in Syria may have been left homeless by the earthquake,” Syria representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Sivanka Dhanapala said.
He added that this is a huge number and that before the quake, the country have been suffering already an economic crisis due to the pandemic.
Other survivors have resorted to tents as temporary shelters, and most of them are afraid to go back to their homes.
It can be remembered that around 3,300 people in Syria died because of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake and nearly 23,000 in total both in Syria and Turkey.
