9/11 moment of silence law, ipinatupad sa NY bilang paggunita sa 2001 terror attack

Pinirmahan na ni New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ang bagong batas na nagmamandato sa lahat ng public schools sa siyudad na mag-alay ng saglit na katahimikan bawat taon upang gunitain ang anibersaryo ng 9/11 attack.

Ngayong araw ay ginugunita ang ika-18 anibersaryo ng isa sa pinaka-madilim na kaganapan sa kasaysayan ng Amerika.

Layunin ng batas na ito na himukin ang future generation na intindihin ang 2001 terrorist attack na bumawi sa buhay ng halos 3,000 katao.

“9/11 was one of the single darkest periods in this state’s and this nation’s history, and we owe it to those we lost and to the countless heroes who ran toward danger that day and the days that followed to do everything we can to keep their memory alive,” saad ni Cuomo.

Dagdag pa nito, “By establishing this annual day of remembrance and a brief moment of silence in public schools, we will help ensure we never forget — not just the pain of that moment but of the courage, sacrifice and outpouring of love that defined our response.”

Sinuportahan ito nina Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. at Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato.

“The average school-age citizen in New York may have no personal recollection of these events, having not yet been born in 2001, making it imperative that our public education system take the time to educate students in both the loss and heroism experienced on 9/11,” ani Addabbo.

Naisipan nilang isabatas ito dahil wala na umanong mga bata sa public school ang ipinanganak noong nangyari ang nasabing pag-atake at nais lang daw siguraduhin nina Addabbo at Amato na hindi nila makalilimutan ang kasaysayan.

“By mandating a brief moment of silent reflection every year, we may ensure that future generations will better understand this day and its significance in our history,” ani Amato.
