Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was handed a $40,000 fine by the NBA after his use of “offensive and derogatory language” on one of his Instagram videos, that is now deleted.
The former no. 1 overall pick immediately received criticism on his video from his fans and those who saw it. He then made a public apology on Twitter that read:
“What I said was immature, hurtful, and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry. It’s unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such hurtful way, there’s no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than this!”
His mother club also released an statement rebuking Edwards’ comments.
The NBA is known for its activism on everything. Recently Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver was suspended for a year due to racist comments.
