Inaasahan na ngayong linggo na maaprubahan ang locally-made COVID-19 test kits, ayon sa Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Sa isang statement, sinabi ni Science Secretary Fortunato de la Peña na ongoing pa sa ngayon ang field validation para sa locally-made COVID-19 testing kits at inaasahan itong matapos sa Abril 1, 2020.
Mga scientists mula sa University of the Philippines National Institute of Health (UP-NIH) at Philippine Genome Center katuwang ang DOST ang siyang gumawa ng SARS-CoV-2 PCR Detection Kit, ang kauna-unahang locally-made COVID-19 test kits.
Nauna nang nakakuha ng Certificate of Exemption mula sa Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) para maisagawa ang field testing para rito.
Ayon kay De la Peña, ang Certificate of Product Registration ay inaasahan sa darating na Abril 3.
Kabuuang 120,000 test kits ang na-order na para sa manufacturing.
Pero ang inisyal na 26,000 test kits na pinondohan ng DOST at UP-NIH project ay gagamitin mula Abril 4 hanggang 25.
Ibibigay ang mga ito sa Philippine General Hospital, Makati Medical Center, The Medical City, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Southern Philippine Medical Center, at Baguio General Hospital.
“The remaining 94,000 testing kits will be sold commercially by Manila HealthTek at around P1,300 per kit which is cheaper than the units currently being used in hospitals which cost about P8,000,” dagdag pa ni De La Peña.
