The United States launched a strike in Somalia that killed around 30 al-Shabaab fighters.

It happened after the US forces conducted a collective self-defense strike in support of Somalia National Army forces who were fighting more than 100 al-Shabaab fighters.

The strike emerged about 260 kilometers northeast of the Somalian capital of Mogadishu.

“Somalia remains central to stability and security in all of East Africa. U.S. Africa Command’s forces will continue training, advising, and equipping partner forces to help give them the tools they need to defeat al-Shabaab, the largest and most deadly al-Qaeda network in the world,” the US military said.

The US has been providing aid to the government of Somalia since President Joe Biden approved the Pentagon request to redeploy US troops.

Further, a US defense official clarified that no US military was present on the ground when the strike happened. They added that no civilians were injured or killed.

It can be remembered that in previous months, there were also recorded al-Shabaab casualties when US forces strike.
