An Australian firm has chosen the Philippines to be the first location in the world for the commercial operation of a waste-to-fuel project.
In its concept paper for its project in the Philippines, Cyclion Holdings said it wants to process 900 tons per day (TPD) of municipal solid waste (MSW) to produce 52 million liters per year of diesel and other fuels.
The said company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Development Company (NDC) last Monday during the visit of Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual for the 6th Philippine-Australia Ministerial Meeting.
The National Development Company said its partner is initially raising $5 million to finance the construction of the pilot plant in the last quarter of next year.
It will have the capacity to process 50tons per day of solid waste.
NDC General Manager Anton Mauricio said he is studying a $2.5-million investment for the pilot plant.
To recall, the authorities knew that Quezon City, Manila and Caloocan are the hotspots for the project, based on the waste produced by said cities in a day.
