Suportado ni Liberal Party (LP) president Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan ang hakbang ng US Senate na pagbawalang bumyahe sa Estados Unidos ang mga opisyal sa Pilipinas na sanhi ng pagkakakulong ni Sen. Leila de Lima.
Ayon kay Pangilinan, labag sa batas ang ginawang pagkulong kay De Lima.
Ang senadora ay halos 1,000 araw nang nakapiit mula nang akusahan ukol sa drug related issues.
Giit ng LP leader, hindi maituturing na panghihimasok sa Pilipinas ang ginagawa ng US lawmakers dahil bahagi lamang iyon ng pagtutol sa nangyayaring patayan at mga paglabag sa karapatang pantao sa ating bansa.
“We do not consider the US Senate’s action as an interference in the affairs of a sovereign state. Human beings everywhere — regardless of ethnicity, nationality, class, religion, or gender — must speak out against mass murder.
We welcome this move of the US Senators, an act of solidarity not only for Sen. Leila de Lima, but for all the murdered victims, and their orphans, widows, and mothers and fathers, who are now doubly burdened by the absence of a loved one and in many, many cases a family breadwinner,” wika ni Pangilinan.
Naniniwala si Pangilinan na ang pagdami ng mga opisyal sa ibayong dagat na sumusuporta sa laban ni Sen. De Lima ay patunay na mali ang ginagawang pagkulong sa dating justice secretary.
“We are encouraged that a growing number of world leaders recognize the unjust detention of Sen. Leila De Lima for fighting for the lives of our people. This US Senate action, as well as the Iceland UN resolution, shows that we are not alone in this fight,” dagdag pa ni Pangilinan.
