The Bureau of Immigration and the Department of Migrant Workers have joined forces to fight the spread of fake Overseas Employment Certificates.
The BI leadership has noticed the repeated cases of victims of illegal recruitment showing such certificates.
The OEC is a basic requirement for departing OFWs and is issued by the DMW.
This includes the case of a 50-year-old female passenger who was on her way to Hong Kong after being recruited to work.
It was supposed to be on board an Airline Company at Clark International Airport before it was intercepted by immigration personnel.
After having his documents verified by DMW personnel, it confirmed that the documents he was holding were fake.
According to Immigration Commissioner Tansingco, using their system will make it easier to identify fake documents, especially overseas employment certificates.
He stated that they were still complying to the president’s order to streamline and simplify the processing of OFWs’ requirements.
Meanwhile, the case of the female passenger has been handed over to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for further investigation and to determine who is the supplier of the fake documents.
