After learning that scammers were preying on Filipinos looking for work abroad, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued a warning to the public.

The BI issued the alert following the March 9 repatriation of a female victim of this scam from Bangkok, Thailand.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco, citing the female victim, said she [victim] was employed by an online gaming company in Clark, Pampanga, she was recruited via social media by a Filipino national known only as “Mel” and “Sam” to work in a call center in Thailand.

Tansingco claimed that the victim was given instructions to act as a tourist visiting Thailand so that they may leave.

He claimed that after spending a week in Thailand, the victim was picked up by a private car and driven for 12 hours before arriving in Myanmar.
