The Bureau of Customs has successfully prevented the entry and exit of misdeclared agricultural products at the Port of Subic.
Based on the derogatory information received by the agency, it said that port issued eight Pre-Lodgment Control Orders and two Alert Orders from a total of fifteen 40-footer container van shipments that are said to contain frozen lobster balls and frozen Surimi crab.
After the physical examination of the said shipment, they were exposed to a variety of fresh vegetables including potatoes, carrots and broccoli.
Meanwhile, the confiscated misdeclared agricultural products will be subject to seizure and forfeiture proceedings due to the violation of Section 1113 in relation to Section 117 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and DA Administrative order 09 Series of 2010, and DA A.O. No. 18 Series of 2000.
The BOC is set to turn over important information to the Bureau Action Teams Against Smuggling for a case build up so that appropriate charges can be filed against those behind smuggling shipments.
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio praised the diligence of Port of Subic personnel in protecting the country’s border against potentially hazardous agricultural products.
