Nakabalik na sa India ang BRP Ramon Alcaraz para makumpuni matapos magliyab ang engine room nito noong Huwebes.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana, hindi naman daw malala ang natamong pinsala ng barko kaya nakalayag pa rin ito pabalik sa India.
Sumasailalim naman sa gamutan sa isang medical facility ang isa sa dalawang crew ng barko na nasugatan sa sunog, habang nasa sickbay naman ang isa pa.
“Since the BRP Alcaraz was acquired from the US, the US Navy’s Naval Systems Command (NAVSEA) will assist in the conduct of its repairs,” saad ni Lorenzana.
Gagamit din aniya ng tinatawag na diplomatic mechanisms ang kagawaran para mapabilis ang pagkukumpuni sa barko para makabalik ito sa Pilipinas sa lalong madaling panahon.
Samantala, nagpasalamat ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa Indian government para sa ibinigay nitong tulong para sa pagsasaayos muli ng barko.
“We are thankful for the prompt support and assistance of the Indian government through the Indian Navy in providing us proper facilities to conduct needed emergency repairs as well as a medical facility for our injured sailors. This is on top of the assistance already provided earlier to our contingent,” saad ni AFP Vice Chief of Staff at Commander of JTF Pagpauli Vice Admiral Gaudencio Collado Jr.
