BAGUIO CITY – It’s no surprise indeed. South Korean superstars BTS has set a new global record.
The seven-member Grammy-nominated boy group returned on the concert stage of their home country South Korea with the “BTS Permission To Dance on Stage-Seoul” held on March 10, 12 and 13 at the Seoul Olympic Stadium. It was attended by a 45,000 live audience — the maximum number allowed by the Korean government due to the COVID-19 pandemic — and was also watched by 1.02 million online viewers.
Apart from that, the March 12 concert was also viewed live in 3,711 theaters in 75 countries, such as the U.S., the United Kingdom, Japan, and the Philippines.
Presented by HYBE and Trafalgar Releasing, it was the first live worldwide cinema broadcast of a concert from South Korea.
In total, the concert recorded a worldwide box office gross of $32.6M in theaters, which is now considered the highest-grossing global live event cinema in history.
Meanwhile, Filipino fans of BTS also had a chance to watch the concert. This became possible after the opening of cinemas in many parts of the Philippines with the reduction of restrictions related to the COVID-19 virus.
According to HYBE 360 President DJ Kim, they aim to give fans the opportunity to get together, which in turn was difficult during the height of the pandemic. The company had come up with the idea of a Live Viewing at cinemas to provide an alternative experience to fans, called the ARMY, to enjoy the concert live.
The “BTS Permission To Dance on Stage-Seoul” was the band’s much-awaited return in front of a live concert audience in South Korea since October 2019. A Las Vegas leg will be happening on April 8, 9, 15 and 16 at the Allegiant Stadium. (by DJ Gabby)
