The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has issued a statement regarding a sexual assault incident within the UP Diliman campus.
According to CHED Chairman Prospero de Vera III, this serves as a wake-up call for the institution to reassess its policies regarding security and safety on campus, including its coordination with the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies.
The official made this statement after confirming that a female student from UP became a victim of sexual assault along Ylanan road within the Diliman Campus on Saturday, July 1, where the suspect remains at large.
On the part of the university administration, they will deploy additional roving security personnel and officers in various areas after office hours following the incident.
De Vera also stated that the administrative and security officials of the university should immediately coordinate and allow the appropriate PNP personnel to lead the investigation and conduct possible pursuit operations.
The university administration should also tap into the expertise of the PNP in identifying and apprehending all those responsible for the unacceptable violence.
