Ganap nang naging US citizen ang Filipino-born chess champion at Super Grandmaster na si Wesley So, ayon sa US Chess Federation.
Ayon sa US Chess Federation, naging US citizen si So noong Pebrero 26.
Bunsod nito, hindi na maaaring maglaro si So sa ilalim ng bandera ng Pilipinas sa larangan ng chess.
“I want to give back to a country that has been so good to me. From the moment I landed here I was encouraged and enabled to become better than I was,” wika ni So.
“That doesn’t mean I don’t love the Philippines. I have good memories from there. But I did not have the connections needed to succeed in that culture,” dagdag nito.
Si So ay ipinanganak sa Bacoor, Cavite bago magtungo sa Amerika noong 2012 nang madismaya sa pulitika sa Philippine sports.
Maliban sa pagiging three-time Philippine Champion, si So ang ngayo’y world No. 9 at kasalukuyang US Chess Champion.
