Ibinasura lamang ng China ang naging paalala ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin na dapat sundin ang apat na taon nang ruling ng Permanent Court of Arbitration sa The Hague, Netherlands ukol sa claims ng Pilipinas sa West Philippines Sea.
Ayon sa statement ng China, kailanman ay hindi nila tatanggapin ang idineklarang arbitral ruling pabor sa Pilipinas.
Binigyang diin ng embassy ng Beijing sa Manila, hindi naman daw sila nakibahagi sa ginanap na proseso na nagbigay ng award sa Pilipinas noong July 12, 2016.
Una nang iginiit ni Sec. Locsin ang sagutin ng ng China sa international law lalo na at miyembro rin ito ng United nations.
“Compliance in good faith with the award would be consistent with the obligations of the Philippines and China under international law, including UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) to which both parties are signatories,” ani Locsin kasabay ng ikaapat na taon ng arbitration ruling.
Pero nagpaalala pa ang China sa solidong kasunduan daw na pinasok naman ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa Chinese government na naglalayong magkaayos ang dalawang bansa para mapalakas pa lalo ang relasyon.
“China does not accept or participate in the arbitration, nor does it accept or recognize the so-called award. China’s territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea will under no circumstances be affected by this award,” pahayag pa ng Chinese embassy sa statement. “In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-Philippines relations have maintained healthy and steady momentum, with exchanges and cooperation in various fields making continuous progress. This serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples and contributes to peace and stability in the South China Sea.”
