Commission on Elections (COMELEC) clarified that it is up to Supreme Court’s (SC) final ruling whether former Laguna Governor Emilio Ramon ‘ER” Ejercito can still run in the May elections.

Ejercito, earlier convicted guilty of graft charges by Sandiganbayan, is running under Federal Party of the Philippines eyeing a “fierce match” against re-relectionist Gov. Ramil Hernandez of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan.

Ejercito was sentenced 6 to 8 years of imprisonment and perpetual disqualification to hold any government positions by the anti-graft court.

The case stemmed from the illegal insurance deal between Pagsanjan Municipal Government and First Rapid Ventures (FRCV) when he was still the town mayor on 2018.
