VIGAN CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged candidates to maintain a “clean and peaceful” campaign and ask their supporters to avoid littering at the venues for their political rallies.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Vigan, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said that aside from avoiding violations on Comelec rules for the upcoming May 13 midterm elections, it is also best for them to heed on rules in maintaining a clean surrounding.
According to Jimenez, candidates should encourage their supporters who will join and participate on their political sorties to exercise “Clean As You Go†rule and throw their trash, such as plastic bottles, styro packs and others, in designated places.
The poll official said that through this initiative, the candidates can show to the public that they are not only focusing on the welfare of the people but, they are also concerned with the environment.
Moreover, the Comelec asked the public to be vigilant and immediately report to them the possible anomalies that might happen during the campaign period for local candidates.
