The daily text scams in the Philippines were reduced to 100 from 1500 after the implementation of the SIM Registration Act last December 27, 2022.
Two months before the deadline for SIM registration, almost 42.7 million SIM cards were registered.
It is 25.2% of the total active SIM users in the Philippines which is 168 million.
National Telecommunications Commission Legal Branch Officer-in-charge Andres Castelar Jr. emphasized that the personal information of the subscriber is protected under the SIM Registration Law.
He added that the telecommunications provider will protect the registered SIM and that the law will punish those who intendedly to disclose the information.
The National Telecommunications Commission further reminded the public to register to avoid the deactivation of unregistered SIM cards.
