CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY- Department of Environment and Natutral Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) has proposed the implementation of the moratorium of all sorts of waste importation in the country.

Reynaldo Digamon, Regional Director of DENR-EMB-10, said the proposal originates from the discoveries of imported waste materials from South Korea, Australia and Hongkong, foiled in Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) in the town of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Recently, Digamon witnessed the historic departure of the electronic waste from Hongkong placed inside the 40 footer container van carried by SICT Nagoya. Digamon confessed that the moratorium of imported waste will not be lifted until the Bureau of Customs (BoC) has laid down specific rules and regulation against receiving imported waste.

After Hongkong’s waste, the bureau will immediately resolve the assorted waste materials from Australia with its consignee, the Holcim Philippines.
