The Department of Education (DepEd) showcased its unwavering commitment to cultivating future-ready learners during the Annual Educators’ Congress (AECON) 2025 on Thursday.
In a compelling address delivered by Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera on behalf of Secretary Sonny Angara, DepEd accentuated the imperative to arm learners with the essential skills and tools required to excel in an ever-evolving global workforce.
“The landscape for our learners is transforming. To stay ahead, we must ensure their mastery of technology, akin to athletes perfecting new techniques,” declared Usec. Corvera.
Referencing the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, Corvera underscored the escalating demand for competencies aligned with artificial intelligence and technological innovation. He emphasized the displacement of 92 million jobs globally, with 170 million new roles anticipated to emerge over the next decade.
In response to these tectonic shifts, DepEd is prioritizing the closure of infrastructure and digital divides through dynamic Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). The Department recently announced its ambitious goal to construct 15,000 classrooms by 2027 via the PPP model. Efforts are also intensifying to deliver electricity and satellite internet access to underserved schools.
Moreover, rigorous training programs in English, Science, and Mathematics—enhanced through collaborations with Khan Academy and Frontlearners—are being implemented to equip teachers with cutting-edge tools to elevate learning standards.
DepEd has also forged a partnership with TESDA to strengthen industry connections, amplify work readiness courses, and facilitate the attainment of national certifications.
“The unwavering support of our partners and stakeholders illustrates that collaboration catalyzes extraordinary triumphs,” Corvera asserted.
The annual AECON stands as a crucial forum for educators from both public and private sectors to tackle the pressing challenges facing Philippine education and to deliberate on solutions aimed at ensuring high-quality education for all learners.
