MANILA – The Philippines is considering a new “legal action” against China.

In an interview on Tuesday, Foreign Affairs Sec. Teodoro Locsin Jr. said, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is studying what action to take against the alleged mass harvesting of giant clams by Chinese vessels in Panatag Shoal.

“We protest this. This is illegal and in fact you are also violating conventions on environmental protection, for which we can take a legal action,” said Locsin.

The DFA, according to Locsin, “took the substance” of a related report from the national task force on the West Philippine Sea.

However, the official has not revealed details of the case and when it will be filed.
