Nakalikom na umano ang administrasyon ng mahigit sa kalahating milyong pirma bilang suporta sa “surgical amendments” sa Saligang Batas, kabilang na ang pagbabago sa economic provisions.

Ayon kay Interior Usec. Jonathan Malaya, nasa kabuuang 555,610 pirma na ang kanilang nakalap sa mga isinagawang roadshow bago magpatupad ng lockdown noong Marso 2020.

Batay sa pinakahuling datos mula sa Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), tinatayang nasa halos 110-milyon na ang populasyon ng bansa.

“On the basis of these public roadshows that we have done in majority of the provinces in the country, we were able to secure more than half a million signatures from Filipinos nationwide. This was done in a very transparent manner and we conducted all of these roadshows and we can verify the signatures if need be,” wika ni Malaya.

“If not for the pandemic, I think we would have reached more than a million signatures because the pandemic started on March. Our last roadshow was on February,” dagdag nito.

Saklaw sa proposed amendments ang pagbabago sa ilang mga artikulo ng 1987 Constitution, kabilang na ang Article 2, Article 14, at Article 16.

Sinabi pa ni Malaya, ang panukalang amyenda sa Saligang Batas ay suportado ng 23 lokal na pamahalaan, at halos 1,500 miyembro ng League of Municipalities of the Philippines.
