MANILA – Nilinaw ng Department of Health (DOH) na hindi epicenter ng hawaan sa COVID-19 ang Davao City.
“Davao City is not an epicenter,” ani Health Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire.
Kasunod ito ng naitalang pagsipa sa bilang ng mga tinatamaan ng sakit sa lungsod kada araw, na mas mataas na kumpara sa naitatala ng Quezon City.
Ayon kay Vergeire, patuloy nilang mino-monitor ang sitwasyon sa Davao City matapos sumirit ang mga kaso ng COVID-19 sa lugar.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation in Davao City due to increasing cases.”

Pero paliwanag niya, hindi naman itinuturing na source o pinagmulan ng virus ang Davao City kaya hindi raw dapat gamitin ng publiko ang terminong “epicenter.”
Ani Vergeire, posibleng maapektuhan ang sitwasyon ng ibang lugar na nakakapagtala rin ng mataas na bilang ng COVID cases kung patuloy na ituturing na “epicenter” ng hawaan ang Davao City.
“Epicenter, in relation to epidemics, are interpreted by some to refer to an area as the source of the infection. It also meant to connote the area as a hotspot for the infection.”
“We discourage the use of term “epicenter” in describing the rise of cases in an area. These areas are not the origin of the COVID-19 virus. Using the term detracts from other surrounding areas which may be equally or more affected by COVID-19.”
