MANILA – Nilinaw ng Department of Health (DOH) na wala pa silang natatanggap na tugon mula sa Philippine Red Cross (PRC) kaugnay ng pinag-aaralang saliva test para sa COVID-19.
Pahayag ito ng ahensya matapos sabihin ng PRC na hinihintay pa rin nila ang desisyon ng Health department tungkol sa isinusulong na alternatibong paraan ng coronavirus test.
“Nagugulat lang kami bakit lumalabas na naman ito when in fact there’s no issue at all,” ani Health Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire sa isang media forum.
“Nagbigay tayo ng response sa Philippine Red Cross… binigyan tayo ng recommendation ng laboratory expert panel during that time, dahil pinag-aralan nila yung ginawang pag-aaral ng PRC on this saliva test, and there were recommendation na ituloy ang pag-aaral dahil ang mga eksperto ay parang nagsasabi na hindi pa kumpleto for us to get accurate to be able to evaluate kung itong saliva test would be acceptable and pwede na nating i-implement for the whole country.”
Kabilang daw sa inirekomenda ng lab expert panel ay ang pagpapa-validate ng saliva test kits sa Food and Drug Administration, at karagdagang bilang ng participants sa pag-aaral ng nasabing testing method.
“We did not received any response from them after that and we thought that ginagawa na nila yung continuing nung study para lang magkaroon tayo ng ebidensya, wala pa tayong balita doon.”
Nitong Linggo nang sabihin ni PRC biomolecular laboratories chief Paulyn Ubial na 99% ang detection rate ng saliva test matapos ang ginawang pag-aaral ng Estados Unidos.
Sinabi rin ng dating DOH secretary na naka-abang pa rin sila sa approval ng ahensya.
“Saliva tests are cheaper and can be done much easier. In the University of Illinois, they have done one million saliva tests and 99 percent detection or concordance rate was recorded,” ani Ubial sa interview ng TeleRadyo.
Bukod sa PRC, pinag-aaralan din daw ng Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) ang saliva test matapos pondohan ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Noong Nobyembre nagsimula ang pag-aaral ng tanggapan, at inaasahang matatapos sa Marso o Abril.
“Ang RITM may funds received from PCHRD kung saan naguumpisa na sila and this would run for five months and they would be able to give us the results by March or April.”
