Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra slammed the claims by family members of rape-murder convict and former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez that Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has issued a release order for him.
“I have been informed that BuCor chief (Nicanor) Faeldon denies having signed a release order for Sanchez,” he said in a statement.
Guevarra also said that BuCor chief Nicanor Faeldon confirmed that there was was no released order sign for the former mayor.
President Rodrigo Duterte blocked the early release of Sanchez after reviewing the Republic Act of 10592 or the law on Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) for it does not cover suspects of heinous crimes.
Sanchez was convicted on March 11, 1995 over the rape-slay case of Aileen Sarmienta and murder of Allan Gomez. He was sentenced to 7 counts of reclusion perpetua or 40 years imprisonment.
