Simula May 6 ay magagamit na ng publiko ang Hybrid Electric Train (HET) ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Nitong araw nang pasinayaan ng mga opisyal ng DOST, sa pamumuno ni Sec. Fortunato dela Peña ang inagurasyon sa Biñan, Laguna station ng Philippine National Railways (PNR).
Ayon sa kagawaran, aabutin ng 19-araw bago tuluyang ma-turn over ang mga bagon ng tren sa PNR kaya libre muna ang sakay dito ng mga pasahero.
Gawang Pinoy ang HETs na dinevelop ng Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) ng DOST.
“A product of the DOST-MIRDC’s research and development initiatives, the HET technology is a breakthrough in its own right. This home-grown technology, once given a chance, is going to make the Filipinos’ public transportation challenges a thing of the past,†ayon sa MIRDC.
“The HET aims to raise the efficiency of the PNR’s operations through reduced production and operational costs,†dagdag pa nito.
Bukod sa air-conditioned, may CCTV system din, LED TV sers at automatic sliding doors ang tren.
Bibiyahe ang HETs mula Alabang hanggang Biñan station.
