The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) extended a total of P430 million in assistance to the affected individuals of the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro last February.
There were 183,499 distributed family food packs worth Php 125 million and the non-food items amounting to Php 185,150.
As for the cash assistance, there were about 21,046 beneficiaries from Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique who received financial help under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
Emergency Cash Transfer was also provided to 11,471 beneficiaries in the affected areas.
“The ECT is an adaptive strategy in bridging the gaps between immediate disaster relief, humanitarian response, and early recovery support through the provision of unconditional cash to victims of disasters and emergency situations requiring interventions” said DSWD Assistant Secretary Rommel Lopez.
Furthermore, the DSWD also initiated livelihood for the affected individuals through the Cash-For-Work program in which 21,933 residents of Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique benefitted from it.
In this program, the beneficiaries participated in different activities such as improvising oil spill boom and absorbent; establishing barangay or gardens; mangrove rehabilitation, and clean-up drives.
