The Department of Social Welfare and Development continues to strengthen its advocacy in fighting hunger by establishing partnerships with United Nations organizations.
In the recent meeting, Secretary Gatchalian met with United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Gustavo Gonzales, Development Coordination Office (DCO) Regional Director for Asia Pacific David Mclachlan-Karr, and the delegates of the United Nations tackling the actions to take in ending hunger and efficient disaster response in the Philippines.
One of the programs mentioned in the said meeting was the digital food stamp that will serve as a key to avail goods in grocery stores. This will also be connected with the local markets making it beneficial for the farmers.
In terms of disaster response, DSWD Secretary Gatchalian said that the department will prioritize the establishment of warehouses and hubs in local regions to make sure quick response during calamities.
The United Nations delegates, on the other hand, presented the pilot-testing of the Central Emergency Response Fund for Anticipatory Action for the possible risk in the Bicol Region at Eastern Visayas.
Under this, the people will receive cash assistance, three days before the typhoon.
Gustavo Gonzalez assured the department that United Nations will assist in the proposed response.
