President Rodrigo Duterte declared the year 2019 as the “International Labour Organization Centenary.”
According to Proclamation 710, the International Labour Organization (ILO) established in 1919 is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2019; whereas, the Philippines, as an active member of the ILO since 1948, endeavors to enhance its commitment to pursue the ideals and principles of the organization.
“The Philippine Government, through the ILO’s social partners, which includes employers and workers’ organizations, reaffirms its full support to and cooperation with the ILO’s mandate of promoting international peace and social justice,” the Proclamation stated.
Duterte directed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in cooperation with employers’ and workers’ organizations to spearhead and coordinate the conduct of programs and activities nationwide relative to the celebration of the ILO Centenary.
The president also urged all other agencies and instrumentalities of the Government, specifically those involved in ILO projects, and all local government units, as well as the private sector to provide the necessary support and assistance to the DOLE to ensure the successful observance of the ILO Centenary and the effective implementation of this Proclamation.
The Presidential Communications Operations Office shall lead the campaign of fostering ILO awareness in the Philippines, and promote programs and activities, in connection with the celebration of the ILO Centenary.
