President Rodrigo Duterte expressed doubt United State (US) will make good of its word to defend the Philippines in times of war or aggression from other countries.

Speaking at the PDP-Laban campaign rally in Puerto Princesa, Palawan last night, Duterte taunted the assurance of Secretary of State Michael Pompeo that US will protect Philippines from any foreign attack.

“But anyway, ang America sabi niya tutulong kasi may US Defense tayo. Alam mo ‘yung sugal na ‘yan, sabihin mo, “Adre sige, I have your back covered.” Mabuti lang ‘yan sa salita. (It’s only good to hear.),” Duterte said.

According to the president, “they (America) can declare war but they have to get the permission of Congress of the United States of America” before launching any counter-attack to the enemy-state of the Philippines.

However, Duterte clarified that he trusts the Americans but the problem would be whether the help comes on time.

“Do I trust the Americans? Yes. But will that help be on time? That’s the problem,” asks Duterte.

The president then continued recounting how China and Russia helped the goverment in liberating Marawi City from the ISIS-inspired Maute terror group without asking even “toothpick” in exchange of weapons “to fight more efficiently and faster.”
