The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday has advised the public to avoid spreading fake news regarding earthquakes and tsunamis prediction.
Phivolcs said there is “no reliable technology” that can precisely predict the exact time, date and location of large earthquakes.
The agency also encouraged the public to refrain from sharing messages from unreliable sources.
“Pakiusap, huwag maniwala o mag-forward ng anumang impormasyon na maaaring lalong makadagdag sa pagkalito at pagkatakot ng mga makakabasa nito,” it said. / with reports from Bombo Christian Yosores; edited by Bombo Sol Marquez.
