Several Chinese Filipino businessmen on Sunday promised to give aid to the 22 crew members of F/B Gemver 1 whose fishing boat was believed to be rammed by a Chinese fishing vessel in Recto Bank, West Philippine Sea.

Henry Lim Bon Liong, president of Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc., assured that their group is willing to pledge assistance in fixing their damaged fishing boat to continue their source of living.

“While the Philippine and China governments are still ascertaining what really happened, so far the real truth that we are already sure of is that our 22 Filipino brothers had lost their fishing vessel and their means of livelihood,” said Liong.

Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, International Chamber of Commerce Philippines (ICCP) and Philippine Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce also promised to give P1-million to the Filipino crew.

Half of the amount would be used to repair the fishing boat while the other half would serve as a livelihood support for the fishermen. / with reports from Bombo Christian Yosores; edited by Bombo Sol Marquez
