CEBU CITY – The Philippine Paradragon Elite Team sealed their first World Records at the first Paradragon Boat Competition of the 14th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Nations Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.
It was manned by 35 members of Philippine Accessible Disability Services Inc. (PADS) Dragonboat Racing Team which competed in the 200-meter, 500-meter and 2,000-meter categories.
This success came from the Paradragon Division 1 All-persons With Disabilities (PWDs) Crew race with a first World Record of 54.037 seconds.
While the Paradragon Division 2 mix crew of PWD and able-bodied people had the second World Record with 54.173 seconds.
PADS founder and team manager JP Ecarma Maunes said that the team achieved their goal to compete at the biggest dragon boat racinf competition where almost 30 countries joined.
He also added that because of their achievement, the team gained more attention from different parts of the world.
The Cebu-based team won four gold, two bronze, four bronze medals from different dragon boat categories.
The dragonboat team hopes that they will also gain attention from local government units in Cebu by focusing more on PWD paddlers.
