Former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam on Wednesday said that she was used as a tool for the imprisonment of Leila De Lima. Cam said she saw and experienced the pain and hardship of her imprisonment.

“At humingi na ako ng kapatawaran at pagisisi sa aking pagkakamali and the restoration of our friendship is more important than politics,” she added.

Cam confessed that she became an instrument in helping gather evidence against De Lima. “But, naging tool ako in a way na naging instrumento ako sa pagkalap ng ebidensya against her. And one of those is ‘yung kay Kerwin Espinosa at saka ‘yung pag-ano sa Congress,”

To recall, at senate hearings in 2016, Kerwin Espinosa stated that while De Lima was the Justice Secretary, she participated in the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.

He later withdrew his accusations against the former senator in April of last year, claiming that he was so afraid for himself and his family that he had “no choice but to fabricate stories.” Days later, former Bureau of Corrections OIC Rafael Ragos, another important witness against De Lima, withdrew his evidence as well, claiming that it was “all fabrication, untrue, and contrived.”

On January 16, 2023, Cam and her son Marco Martin Cam were released from the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The same Camp Crame location is where De Lima is also held.

Cam said that she advised De Lima to keep her faith.

“Binigay ko sa kanya ang aking Mahal na Birhen ng Manaoag. Nagyakapan kami tapos sabi ko sa kanya, stay strong. Pareho tayong—sabi niya mas stronger ka sa akin dahil ang anak mo nakikita mo,” Cam said.
