The Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that four additional suspects in the murder of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo had turned themselves in to police.

According to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, the four suspects, who are all former soldiers, surrendered themselves in through the Philippine Armed Forces.

“Through the military, kasi mga military personnel ito, former military personnel, they are in custody already but will be turned over to us tomorrow… We hope that they will be in Manila tonight and will be turned over to us tomorrow morning,” he said.

“They arranged for their own surrender…. Most of them are not anymore active, may tumulong sa amin na enlisted person, may active military man na tumulong sa ‘min na kunin ang surrender,” Remulla added.

Two to three more suspects in Degamo’s murder are still being sought for by the authorities, although the majority of the so-called attack squad members are already in their custody.

8 other suspects in the Degamo murder are being sought by police.

The 3rd District Representative for Negros Oriental, Arnolfo Teves Jr., requested a conversation with Remulla through text message, which he also disclosed.

(I don’t want to speak to somebody without the presence of other people because I don’t want my words to be twisted.)

“He wants to talk to me but I still haven’t answered because we are still busy doing what we are doing. I don’t want it to distract me from what I have to do first,” he added.

Teves was previously linked to the murder of Degamo by a suspect.

The congressman, who has not yet returned from his trip, claimed that Degamo’s murder was unrelated to his tribe.
