Ikinalugod ng Malacañang ang gagawing pag-aaral ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST) sa paggamit ng convalescent blood plasma bilang therapy sa mga dinapuan ng coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“The Palace welcomes the announcement of Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña on the start of the government-funded study looking on the use of convalescent blood plasma as one of the modes of therapy for COVID-19,” saad ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque sa isang pahayag.
Ang convalescent plasma, na kinuha sa dugo ng mga gumaling na pasyente ng COVID-19, ay may lamang antibodies laban sa virus.
“We hope this study will yield positive results and be our country’s contribution to the global effort to develop COVID-19 treatment,” ani Roque.
Ayon pa kay Roque, ginagamit na rin ng University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital ang plasma bilang theraphy para sa mga pasyenteng may COVID-19, sa tulong na rin ng pondo mula sa DOST.
Una nang sinabi ng Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) na layon ng proyekto na palakasin pa ang kapasidad ng mga health care professionals sa clinical use nito, hindi lamang para sa COVID-19 kundi pati na rin sa iba pang uri ng impeksyon.
Noong Abril nang simulan nila ang panawagan para sa mga blood donations mula sa mga COVID-19 survivors.
“For the past months, we have been mobilizing our resources and maximizing our capacities to help combat COVID-19. Through this project, we are hoping to provide supportive treatment to COVID-19 patients to avoid worst-case scenarios,” pahayag ni DOST-PCHRD Executive Director Jaime Montoya.
“If the project proves to be successful, we can also contribute to developing a treatment that will help reduce the mortality rate of COVID-19,” dagdag nito.
