After five days of border clashes, which resulted in the deaths of at least 34 Palestinians and one Israeli, a truce in and around the Gaza Strip took effect on Saturday.
According to Palestinian and Egyptian officials, the ceasefire was set to begin at 10:00 pm (1900 GMT).
However, as the deadline drew closer, dozens more missiles were fired from Gaza towards Israel, triggering further airstrikes, according to AFP correspondents.
Most of the rockets were intercepted by Israeli air defenses.
After 1900 GMT, a couple more missiles were launched, and then there were additional Israeli airstrikes before everything seemed to calm down.
