A total of 7 awards were honored to the historical film “GomBurZa” at the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal held last night at the New Frontier Theater, Quezon City.
The Jesuit Communications-produced film took home the 2nd Best Picture award. In a speech, they thank their producers, staff, and crew who made the film possible.
Pepe Diokno, the son of human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, was awarded the Best Director for the said film. In his speech, he emphasized that their love for the country brought them to the finish line.
“I want to thank everybody behind the scenes of GomBurZa as well as in front of the camera who brought this film to life. We were all united by this love of a story about our country and that brought us to the finish line.”
Diokno also hoped that this is the start of people going back to cinemas.
“All the films are amazing this year and it’s so nice to see people back in the cinemas. Nakakataba po ng puso. I hope that this is the start of a good trend for Philippine cinema in general.”
GomBurZa also received the Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design, and Best Production Design. Meanwhile, their lead actor Cedrick Juan brought home the Best Actor award.
They also receive the Gatpuno Antonio J Villegas Cultural Award which is given to a film who “excellently portrays the Filipino people and the Filipino culture.”
