Ibinunyag ng Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) na itinuon nila ang kanilang pokus sa training ni Pinoy gymnast star Carlos Yulo para sa katatapos pa lamang na 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Paliwanag ni GAP president Cynthia Carrion-Norton, bagama’t may limang disiplina ang gymnastics — artistic; rhythmic; trampolining and tumbling; acrobatic; at aerobic — sapat lamang ang budget ng asosasyon sa isang kategorya lamang.
“I concentrated in Caloy because I know he is my treasure and I ignored the others completely because we didn’t have enough money,” wika ni Carrion.
“When you’re a national sports association president, you have to see if you have enough money,” dagdag nito.
“Let’s say you only have P100, you have to see where you’re going to put that P100 so I thought I better put it with Caloy because he’s the one performing the most,” anang opisyal.
Maaalalang humakot ng dalawang ginto at limang pilak na mga medalya si Yulo sa regional showpiece.
Hindi rin nagpahuli ang iba pang mga Pinoy gymnast kung saan ang cancer-survivor na si Daniela dela Pisa ay nagreyna sa women’s rhythmic hoop category, at dumagit din ng bronze sa women’s ball, clubs at group all-around categories.
Sa kabila nito, sinabi ni Carrion na marami pa ang kailangang gawin para sa gymnastics sa bansa.
“Now that Caloy is already being taken care of, I’m shifting and I want the (other disciplines) to have good coaches,” ani Carrion.
