After Huang Xilian’s comments pushed the Philippines to oppose Taiwan’s independence, Senator Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros-Baraquel urged Malacañang to ask China to recall its ambassador to the Philippines over the weekend.
Hontiveros said in a statement issued on Sunday that the nation should work to get Huang, its ships, and artificial islands in the West Philippine Sea returned to China.
The Palace should request Beijing to quickly recall their representative in Manila. The Senator said “He has no business being a diplomat if he is unable to engage with us in a respectful and dignified manner,”
She continued, “He, along with his country’s ships and artificial islands in the West Philippine Sea, should pack up and leave,”
Last week, Huang said if the Philippines cared for the 150,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan, it would oppose Taiwan independence, rather than give the United States military a free pass near the Taiwan strait.
