Aprubado ng House Committee on Human Rights ang Human Rights Defenders Protection Act o ang HRDPA na naglalayong maprotektahan ang karapatan ng mga Human Rights defender.

Ayon kay House Committee on Human Rights Chair Bienvenido “Benny” M. Abante, Jr. layunin nito na masiguro na ang mga human rights defender ay makapagsasagawa ng kanilang tamang aksyon na walang pagdadalawang isip at walang takot.

Dagdag pa niya, ito raw ay makatutulong upang mas maging epektibo ang mga human rights defender sa kanilang trabaho.

“For them to be effective, HR defenders need to work in a safe and enabling environment, and that is what we want to cultivate with the passage of this measure”, sinabi ni House Committee on Human Rights Chair Bienvenido “Benny” M. Abante, Jr.

Ilan sa mga karapatan na nilalayong maprotektahan ng Human Rights Defender Protection Act ay ang (1) right to promote and protect human rights; (2) right to form groups, associations and organizations; (3) right to seek and receive and disseminate Information; (4) right to communicate with non-governmental governmental and intergovernmental organizations; (5) right to peaceful assembly; (6) right to freedom of movement; (7) right to privacy; and (8) right against vilification.
