Iran Pres. Rouhani accuses U.S. in ‘merciless economic terrorism’

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took advantage of the worlkd’s stage as he gave warned world leaders that security in Persian Gulf might be at risk if a “single blunder” took place which may “fuel big fire.”

Rouhani made the comments while deivering his speech at the 74th UN General Assembly in New York, City. He even accused the United States of engaging in “merciless economic terrorism” after the latter withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal.

On the same day, the United States increased its sanction on Iran where it imposed penalties on six Chinese companies who continue to transport Iranian crude.

Tehran “will never negotiate with an enemy that seeks to make Iran surrender with the weapon of poverty,” Rouhani said in his highly anticipated speech at the U.N. General Assembly. “Stop the sanctions so as to open the way for the start of negotiations.”

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Treasury Department announced the latest sanctions, which freeze any assets the firms may have in U.S. jurisdictions and bar Americans from doing business with them.

“We’re telling China and all nations, know that we will sanction every violation of sanctionable activity,” Pompeo said at an event for United Against a Nuclear Iran, a lobby group opposed to the nuclear deal, a few blocks from where Rouhani was speaking at the United Nations’ headquarters.
