MANILA – Farmers will less likely be affected after regulators have reduced the allocation of irrigation water from Angat Dam.
National Water Resources Board (NWRB) executive director Dr. Sevillo David on Monday said this, noting that farmers are already in the middle of planting season.
David said NWRB consulted farm workers, who agreed to the supply reduction of irrigation water to manage water supply in Angat Dam, one of the main sources of water in Metro Manila.
“Puwede pong bawasan ang alokasyon nila para na rin po makatulong tayo sa pagma-manage ng lebel ng dam at ma-sustain po ang pangangailangan natin sa susunod pang mga buwan,” said David.
From 42 cubic meters per second, David said, regulators will reduce water supply for agriculture to 35 cubic meters per second starting April 1.
PAGASA earlier warned that the dam may hit its critical level of 180 meters by May because of the El Niño phenomenon.
