Binigyan na ng direktiba ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) para imbestigahan ang umano’y katiwalian sa loob ng Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
Sa inilabas na department order ni Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra, inatasan nito ang NBI na imbestigahan at kasuhan ang mga mapapatunayang sangkot sa sinasabing korupsyon.
Paliwanag ng kalihim, pagkakataon ito ng PCSO para patunayang hindi totoo ang mga paratang na ikinakabit sa kanilang ahensya.
Nauna ng dinepensahan ni Guevarra ang utos ng pangulo na nagpasara sa gaming schemes ng PCSO.
“(President) may order the suspension of operations based on preliminary information available to him, much like a judicial restraining order, but even more powerful, because it emanates from a constitutional duty to faithfully execute our laws, if not from the inherent police power of the state.”
Giit ni Guevarra hindi nangangahulugan na sinuspinde ng pangulo ang buong sistema ng PCSO sa ilalim ng closure order.
Nais lang daw nito na makumpirma ang mga ulat na may iregularidad sa mga transaksyon ng ahensya.
“The PCSO has other sources of revenue apart from its gaming operations and it will continue to perform its mandate, albeit with limited resources.”
