Patuloy na umaani ng batikos ang pelikulang “Elcano and Magellan: The First Voyage Around the World” lalo na sa ilang mga Pinoy fans.

Sa ilalim ng titulo ng naturang promotional campaign poster ay ang animation kay Lapu-Lapu na na may subheadline na “with Philippines very own hero Lapu-Lapu.”

Nasa bahagi pa ng poster ang ipinagmamalaking highlight daw ng pelikula ang “the battle at Mactan between Magellan and Lapu-Lapu.”

Sa unang tingin ay kapuri-puri at maipagmamalaki raw ang pagbanggit sa ilang bahagi ng kasaysayan ng Pilipinas.

Pero agad din itong umani nang pagpuna dahil sa trailer ng animation film ay nakasaad na sa adventure movie na “tiyak daw na magpapabago sa kasaysayan ng mundo.”

Ayon sa ilang tagamasid bakit daw inilalagay sa pelikula na ang mananakop ang siyang mga bayani o good guys.

Ang mga natives din na Filipino ay inilarawan daw na mga kalaban at itinuring pa na mga “romantic interests.”

Sinabi naman ng Filipino American at dating BuzzFeed editor na si Matt Ortile, na ang animation film na gawa ng mga Spanish film producers at distributors ay dapat lamang ‘wag ipalabas sa Pilipinas at ibasura na lamang.

If you watch the trailer it’s worse. Lapu-Lapu is framed as the villain and the way they depict the natives is pretty disrespectful.

Also, what’s up with the Native birds? These are all south/central American native birds, you’d never find these flying freely in the Philipines at the time.
Can this movie get canceled already? South/Central Americans are coming for you too

Trying to distort history and passing it as entertainment. They’re trying to make money by slandering Lapu-Lapu’s identity, really??, and they expect us to support it?? Did they even ask permission to depict our hero as someone villanous as the animation wants?
