CEBU CITY- Authorities are still conducting a thorough investigation in connection with the killing of a lawyer on Tuesday in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
The victim was identified as Atty. Anthony Hernandez Trinidad, 53, who has a law office in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
His wife, Novie Marie Trinidad, 53, suffered from serious injuries and currently in critical condition.
Police executive Master Sgt. Jerome Delara of Negros Occidental Provincial PNP said that the victim was shot dead while traveling back from La Libertad town in Negros Oriental when a motorcycle-riding assailants fired shots while the victims were on board their white Subaru sports utility vehicle (SUV).
Trinidad lost control of the SUV and bumped a pedicab before hitting a concrete fence that caused injuries to the pedicab driver identified as Guillermo Magdasal, 52.
The police chief added that the victims were rushed to Guihulngan Hospital but Atty. Trinidad was declared dead on arrival while his wife was transferred to Dumaguete Medical Center.
The lawyer suffered from fatal gunshot wounds on his neck and head.
Tecson said that his group is focusing on two angles behind the motive of the attack. It includes his work as a lawyer while the second one is personal grudge.
He also revealed that Trinidad handles sensitive drug-related cases.
