KALIBO, AKLAN – More local government units (LGU) in Kalibo, Aklan has declared a state of calamity in their area after fires engulfed the whole public market on Sunday evening.
In a special session conducted by Sangguniang Bayan of Kalibo, officials reached a “unanimous” decision in order to quickly bring aide to those businesses affected by the three hours blaze.
They also agreed to look for temporary relocation site in order for the businesses to continue while the public market will be under reconstruction.
In an initial investigation of Bureau of Fire Protection (BCP), Provincial Fire Marshall Superintendent Nazrudyn Cablayan said that almost 80% of Kalibo public market were totally destroyed.
A total of 276 stalls were recorded in the said market where it includes jewelry shop, remittance center, grocery stores, restaurants, beauty salon, processed meat and vegetable sections.
