The LRT-1 Roosevelt Station in Quezon City will now be called FPJ Station starting Sunday.

Senator Grace Poe, former Senate President Tito Sotto III, and Senator Lito Lapid will preside over the renaming event.

The ceremony will also include the unveiling of a new marker honoring the late National Artist Fernando Poe Jr., who would have turned 84 on August 20.

“I hope people remember FPJ whenever they board this train. Public service has always been in FPJ’s heart. Giving commuters a safe and comfortable ride is a way of keeping his legacy alive,” Poe added.

“Magandang regalo kay FPJ at sa kanyang mga taga-suporta ang pagkakaroon ng isang FPJ Station,” Poe continued.

The name change is in accordance with Republic Act No. 11608, which renamed Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City’s first legislative district to FPJ Avenue.

The law was authored by Lapid and sponsored by Sotto.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Light Rail Management Corporation president and CEO Juan Alfonso, and other corporate leaders will attend the ceremony.

A pop-up exhibit showcasing FPJ, who was named a National Artist in 2012, will also be featured during the event.

The late actor, the senator’s father, was dubbed “The King of Philippine Movies” after appearing in over 300 films throughout his 46-year acting career.
