The LTO has more than 1.7 million unclaimed licensed plates in various regional offices but will need 1 million more to clear its backlog.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said he earlier asked Land Transportation Office OIC Hector Villacorta to conduct an inventory of all available license plates to assess the status of the country’s license plate backlog.
Bautista said the department is looking into developing an app that will display all unclaimed license plates.
Those who have not yet received their licensed plates can go to applications, type in their name and plate number and see which district office already has the plates.
He said the department is also working on reducing the backlog for motorcycle license plates across the country.
